Sex Offender Registration

Sex crime laws change regularly. If you have been charged with a sex crime, you may be required to register as a sex offender. Our attorneys can help you.

“Sex offender” is a generic term used to describe all individuals convicted of criminal offenses involving sex, such as rape, child molestation and sexual harassment. In Oklahoma, Megan’s Law requires sex offenders to disclose personal information so the community knows there is a sex offender living amongst them. Oklahoma Sex Offender Laws

As of November 1st, 2007, the rules and restrictions applying to registered sex offenders in Oklahoma have drastically changed. Even if you were already registered or released from the duty to register before November 1, 2007, these new changes apply to you. Under the new “Risk Assessment Classification System” every individual who is or has been required to register is assigned a “level” by the government to determine the length of their duty to register.

Since the enactment of this new law, most offenders have been since ordered to register as a sex offender for life. Failure to do so can and will result in new felony criminal charges and incarceration in state prison. The requirements of sex offender registration interfere with your ability to find a place to live, work, and to ever move forward with the rest of your life.

But there is hope……

These new laws also provide the ability for the risk assessment classification level to be challenged and overturned. Careless, uninformed, and harmful classifications by the Department of Corrections (DOC) can be shown to be inaccurate, prejudicial, and can be changed. You can have the length of your duty to register cut short by 10 years or more, and in some cases, your duty to register can be completely eliminated.
