Statement to Clients

One of the most rewarding things about my job is when someone calls me--and they’re scared, they’ve just bonded out of jail, or someone they love is facing serious criminal charges--but at the end of our conversation, I hear the words, “Thank you. You’ve made me feel a whole lot better.” That’s when I know I’ve done some good.

Criminal prosecutions are terrifying. Whether you’re the one facing charges, or it’s a friend or a member of your family, the fear, the stress, and the uncertainty in a criminal case are all staggering. To be able to calm those fears, to explain the road ahead, and to shine a little light in a very dark time: that’s why I do what I do. Whenever I’m fortunate enough to have someone place their trust in me--to put their very life in my hands--I consider that a sacred trust, and I give it everything I have.

In every case I handle, I won’t settle for less than the best possible outcome, and I want my clients to come away knowing they could get in touch with me whenever they needed, that they understood every aspect of the proceeding and every option available, and--most importantly--I want my clients to feel like they had a lawyer who worked for them.

Featured Case

I won the first case I ever tried to a jury. My client was completely innocent. A single mother and legal immigrant with two little girls, she faced heavy charges of Drug Trafficking, all because her boyfriend had taken her on a weekend trip to Oklahoma City, but hadn’t told her about the $200,000 worth of crystal meth he’d hidden in the car.

For almost a year, this woman lived in fear that she would lose everything--the life she’d built, the children she’d raised, the prospect for full American citizenship that was only a year away. The State offered her everything it could: she could have avoided going to jail, even avoided a criminal conviction, if she just pled guilty. But she knew she was innocent, and she knew that lying to the Court--saying she was guilty--would mean she’d eventually lose her life here in America anyway: lose her children, lose her career, lose the citizenship she’d earned.

She wanted to fight, and I was proud to fight for her. After a two-day trial, the verdict came back: Not guilty. She walked out of the courtroom that day a free woman. She would keep her career. Her children would keep their mother. And in a year, the United States would add another citizen to its ranks, one who knew, perhaps more than most, just how precious our rights and freedoms truly are.
