Featured Case

My most interesting and heartbreaking case occurred in the mid-1980s when a young mother and her two children, ages two and four, were kidnapped from the parking lot of a local mall by two desperados. They took the young mother and her kids to an old mansion on NE 50th Street where the woman was brutalized for over 24 hours and then taken to Sportsman’s Lake near Shawnee where they tied her up and held her under water until she drowned. Thankfully, the children were not harmed. A security guard at the Mall actually watched the three men staking out the postal station where the kidnapping occurred. The security guard testified he knew they were “up to no good” but did not intervene in any manner. I sued the Mall for negligence in failure to provide proper security. I was able to obtain a large settlement for the children so they are financially secure. Two of the assailants were given the death sentence and executed for the crime.
